About

There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats. — Albert Schweitzer

My name is Kimberly.

I am a different person than the one who wrote the sentences below for this “About” page in 2005. The old house, two of the three cats, and the violin are still here. But Paul, my husband of 15 1/2 years and my love for even longer, died on January 10, 2014. With his death, my world has changed. I started this blog after Paul’s second battle with cancer in 2004. After many years away, I’ve come back to this space, hoping that writing here will help me to find a way through my grief.

I live in an old house in Seattle, Washington with my husband, Paul, our three cats, a violin and not nearly enough bookshelves. I’m an architect by day, occasional itinerant musician and aspiring writer by night. And I like to cook.
