Feline Friday: Better

July 18th, 2008 by Kimberly

When Sasha and Lyra began fighting, Sergei just seemed puzzled. He’s used to curling up with Sasha for afternoon naps, but Sasha had begun hissing whenever he came close. He’s also quite fond of Miss Lyra, and she didn’t want him anywhere near her, either. I wouldn’t have said before that a cat could look confused and sad, but that’s how Sergei seemed to me.

Things seem to be getting better between Sasha and Lyra. A few days of alone time (apart from the other cats, not from us) have calmed Miss Lyra considerably, and Sasha’s aggressive behavior seems to have abated entirely. Sergei’s relationship with Lyra seems to be back to normal. However, Lyra still feels threatened by Sasha; she will tolerate a moment or two of none-to-nose contact, then she is likely to growl or swat at him. And, if Sergei happens upon Sasha after Lyra has bopped him, Sasha is likely to hiss at Sergei. Fortunately, this is no longer happening all the time. Sergei’s a lover, not a fighter, so he gets out of Sasha’s way, and looks to his people for affection.

Everything isn’t back to normal yet, but all of us are feeling a little better.

This weekend is the 200th edition of the Friday Ark! If you stop by to visit the animals at Modulator, let Steve know you appreciate his work. Thanks, Steve! And Weekend Cat Blogging is at CatSynth, where Amar and Luna are celebrating their second blog anniversary.

Poor baby! He really does look a bit confused here! Glad to hear things are going better.

We went through this with two of our female, spayed dogs. One day they suddenly took a dislike to each other and had an old fashioned dog fight with puncture wounds and requiring trips to the vet…. and these were a beagle mutt and a daschund mutt. I thought I might have to send one of them to live in the country, but one day… it was over. Whew!

Well, we’re partial to Sergei around here so we don’t want him sad or confused. It’s good to know that things are getting back to normal. We put a new litter box into play today-basically a giant rubbermaid tub with part of one side cut lower for entering. This is because giant McCloud tends to go over the side. So far, so good- I’ll post about it later in the week.

We’re glad things seem to be improving for your cats. We’ve always taken it as a good sign that your crowd gets along well. Gives us hope that Maddie and Ivy will grow more tolerant of each other. I hope Sasha and Lyra bury the hatchet.
