When I opened our box of of produce this week, I was surprised to see stone fruit, as we’d seen no fruit trees of bearing age when we visited the farm. The peaches and nectarines in this week’s boxes aren’t from Local Roots; they’re from Acma Orchards in Quincy, WA, which has the stall next to Local Roots at our neighborhood farmers’ market. I haven’t tried any of the fruit yet, but it smells glorious, and is just as beautiful as all of the veggies.
In our box today, we found the following:
- Bunch of baby chioggia beets with greens
- Bunch of purslane
- Broccoli
- Head of savoy cabbage
- Bag of salad mix
- Bunch of parsley
- A nectarine! and a peach! Yum!
And again this week, someone didn’t pick up their box. Perhaps people are on vacation, but you’d think they’d offer their share to a friend, or arrange with our CSA not to deliver their box. I’m happy to have the additional peach and nectarine. This week, the extra veggies will be a housewarming present for a couple of friends. Because really, nothing says we’re wishing you happiness in your new home like a big bag of green vegetables!

ahh! The demise of the cherry season is the start of the stone fruits. That’s some consolation around here!
