I started raising chickens two years ago in a subdivision, starting with 2 hens and a rooster. Now I have 5 new baby chicks, 5 two-month old chicks, and a hen sitting on four more eggs due to hatch. I went to a chickens class last month and my husband finally said yes. We are allowed to keep chickens where I live but the restrictions on locating the coop put it in the middle of our very small yard. :( I'm trying to figure out a way around it which entails bribing a neighbor, I think. My setting may be a little more rural than yours as our houses back up onto a creek though we are in city limits. Lesson 1: Make sure that the coop is impenetrable by 4 footed intruders. Lesson 2: Roosters can crow off and on, all day long. Think long and hard before you add a rooster to the mix. I’ve lived next to a neighbor with chickens, for years.
