Six random things

June 25th, 2008 by Kimberly

Laura at (not so) Urban Hennery tagged me, and saved me from having to come up with an idea for a post today. Here’s how this meme works:

  • Link to the person who tagged you. Check.
  • Post the rules on the blog. Check.
  • Write six random things about yourself. Maybe a little more than six… check.
  • Tag six people at the end of your post. Not tonight… wanna tag yourself?
  • Let each person know they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog. See above.
  • Let the tagger know when your entry is up. Check!

1. I didn’t start drinking coffee until my last year of grad school. The first coffee I had that I liked was a cappuccino, and I’ve never learned to drink coffee black (though I’ve enjoyed small sips at a cupping, aka coffee tasting). I’d have a hard time giving up my morning latte.

2. I like tulips best when they’re fully open or falling apart.

3. I may never live in Texas again, but I will always be a Texan, if only in my own mind. I left Texas 12 years ago. Three years in the Bay Area weren’t enough to make me feel like a Californian, nor do I feel like a Washingtonian after nine years in Seattle. I think I’m destined to be an ex-pat Texan. Strange, but true.

4. When I travel, I always try to find a local farmers’ market. I love to see what’s in season in other places. My favorite recently was the tiny farmers’ market in Bishop, CA, that we visited last August. The O’Henry peaches I bought there had a very different flavor from O’Henrys grown in Washington. Terroir, baby!

5. I sometimes have trouble walking. Not the putting one foot in front of the other part, but the staying upright part. I don’t pay attention to what’s in front of my feet because I’m looking up — at buildings, usually, but also at trees, or the sky. So I don’t notice that uneven pavement ’til I’ve tripped on it, and ended up on my bum. When Paul and I are walking someplace that’s architecturally interesting, I often hold his hand. The contact keeps me a little more grounded… and he helps me keep my balance if I start to fall. (No photo of my recently scraped palms and knee to go with this one.)

6. Since moving to Seattle, I’ve become fascinated with crows. Eagles, too.
