Today was our first CSA delivery of the season from Local Roots Farm. A brand new farm at last year’s new Queen Anne Farmers’ Market, Local Roots quickly became a favorite of ours, not only for the gorgeous greens and beans and super sweet cherry tomatoes, but for the obvious pleasure that farmer Siri and her husband Jason took in being there.
When Siri asked if I’d be interested in their CSA, I said yes! We’re the pick-up site for our neighborhood, so I arrived home to find heavy waxed-cardboard boxes neatly stacked on our front porch. Our box was loaded with a gorgeous mix of greens:
Curly green kale
Mixed salad greens (sweet, bitter and spicy)
Red leaf lettuce (soft and sweet)
Tat soi
Tiny white turnips (with greens)
Such salads we’re going to have this week!

Lucky you! Siri and John are the best. Just thinking about a white turnip-gruyere gratin makes me hungry.
I have been reading all these luscious reports of fresh food and salmon and such and I am green with envy. ( also quite hungry, although it is almost midnight)
As to the radishes… I have had some that instead of being a bit hot, are quite sweet. Wish I could remember if these were a specific variety… there must be a variation in taste among different types.
