This time of year, it’s usually dark when I sit down at my computer to write. (This time of year, it’s usually dark when I’m at home, period.) Sometimes, I turn on a light, but more often these days I sit and type in the dark — dark, that is, except for the glow from the electric candles on the windowsills and our neighbor’s Christmas lights.
