Day 17: Menu for Hope

December 17th, 2007 by Kimberly

Menu for Hope 4Each year, during this season of giving, members of the food blogging community come together to support those who often do not have enough food on their tables or in their bellies. Created by Pim of Chez Pim, Menu for Hope is an online raffle of culinary treats. Prizes run the gamut: meals at fabulous restaurants, meetings with famous food personalities, homemade goodies from food bloggers, a cornucopia of cookbooks and other kitchen paraphernalia, bottles of beautiful wine.

Proceeds from the raffle support the UN World Food Programme. This year, the funds raised will be earmarked for a school lunch program in Lesotho, Africa. Pim writes:

We chose to support the school lunch program because providing food for the children not only keeps them alive, but helps them stay in school so that they learn the skills to feed themselves in the future. We chose to support the program in Lesotho because it is a model program in local procurement - buying food locally to support local farmers and the local economy. Instead of shipping surplus corn across the ocean, the WFP is buying directly from local subsistent farmers who practice conservation farming methods in Lesotho to feed the children there.

Please look at the faces of the people of Lesotho. Next, take a look at all the delectable prizes that have been donated. And, finally, please give. You have until this Friday, December 21.
