We always got the tree December 15th or so and didn't decorate it until Christmas Eve sometimes. Of course I have my tree up at the moment (now that I am older and have moved out) but this holiday season has just been weirdly early for me. (I adore brussels sprouts.) When I lived in Europe, children didn’t open gifts till January 6th, since that is Three Kings Day when baby Jesus got his gifts. We always got the tree December 15th or so and didn’t decorate it until Christmas Eve sometimes.

One of my favorite writing lessons for teenagers is to write a story using NO adjectives or adverbs. It's really challenging. Try it...it's harder than it sounds.
