Like old times

When I was in college, I would finish a semester, go home to my parents’ house, and get sick. Not every single semester, but often enough to consider it a pattern: after the stress and sleep deprivation of finals were over, my body would let down its guard, allowing a waiting bug to make its move. And I’d be cranky, because I was ready for a vacation.

So perhaps I shouldn’t be surprised that I woke up this morning with a sore throat. After several months of working way too much, I was looking forward to being on vacation this entire week. As I was falling asleep last night, I felt a twinge of pain; by midday, it had become a raw ache that radiates into my ears when I swallow. Add a low-grade fever, a little cough, and fatigue, and what have you got? Me, unhappily lying around the house, reading and drinking lots of fluids. I hope that a good night’s sleep will shake this bug. I could really use a vacation.

Oh, no! My mom was always sick on vacation when we were kids, for exactly the reasons you state here. When the body wants you to rest, it makes you rest, I suppose. At least lying around the house reading isn’t a half-bad vacation, even if it’s not exactly what you had in mind. Hope you’re feeling better soon.
