Feline Friday: At first sight

baby cats

A couple of days ago, I ran across a stack of photos on our living room bookshelves. In among the snapshots of friends’ children and my architectural projects were the first photos we have of Sasha and Sergei.

These are the pics that I saw on petfinder.com, when I went searching for a kitten to keep Lyra company. We had recently adopted her from a foster home with several cats and a litter of kittens, and she seemed to be searching our house for another cat. I was looking for only one kitten, but when I saw these two beautiful babies intertwined with each other, I was smitten. Convincing Paul to meet the kittens was difficult (”Two kittens? You want three cats?!?”), but eventually he gave in to my cajoling. In the kittens’ foster home, we sat down on the living room floor to play with them. While the tuxedo’d Sergei batted at the toy I held, the tiny tabby fluffball called Sasha crawled onto Paul’s lap and began purring. Paul was lost.

A couple of weeks later, after neutering and microchipping, the kittens came to live with us. Their foster mom brought these pictures along with them. Then, the photos were a month old; Sasha and Sergei were noticeably larger, but still kittens. Now, they are handsome, fully-grown cats, but I often see the same expressions on their faces as on the little faces in these photos.

Two kittens will board the Friday Ark, stop by What Did You Eat? for Weekend Cat Blogging, and visit the Carnival of the Cats on Sunday.

What a cool entry. This is just like the comic books where first you meet the adult superhero and only much further down the road do you find out about the child version (i.e. Superboy or Muppet Babies).

How adorable. No man could resist those eyes attached to a purring ball of fur in his lap.. Sweet kitties. I remember how sweet the crew here used to be as well. Shh. Must whisper or they will hear me. I love how the kittens play so hard then suddenly run out of gas and flop over, totally asleep.

I am smitten by these photos. I come via Melange each week to see the photos of your cats. They are so beautiful.
