Feline Friday: Alpha kitten

Sergei is Alpha Kitten

There was no question who was alpha kitten in this sibling pair. Sergei was the stronger and more athletic, and he almost always came out on top. Sweet, mild-mannered Sasha seemed perfectly content to be underkitten to his brother (and, for that matter, to Miss Lyra).

Now that they are fully grown, Sasha is just as big and strong as Sergei. The power politics of their relationship have shifted subtly, and it seems sometimes that Sasha aspires to be alpha cat.

However, some things never change. Sergei still uses Sasha as a pillow.

Kimberley,
What do I need to do to take photos of my cats so that they don’t all look like creatures from Pet Semetery?

Greetings!

Fiddleheads and pillowcats! I’ve missed you.

What say we pressure Vicki to come visit?

Joanna, with cats it’s usually best to avoid using the flash.

I found this blog by accident. The photos are stunning. Cute cats too.

It is funny how the power shifts are almost not recognizable and they still fall back into their usual habits. Both of these pictures are so sweet.

Thanks, tvindy, for answering Joanna’s question in my (all too frequent these days) absence. While a flash will give us humans red eyes when the camera catches the flash illuminating our blood-rich retinas, it gives cats those demonic glowing eyes because of the reflective layer at the back of cats’ eyeballs — the stuff that helps them see in the dark, and makes their eyes glow in the dark.

There’s more info on photographing cats here.

Oh, they look ever so sweet lying there together! My kitties are exactly like yours. One is more dominant than the other…

Arrgh!! I’ve been trying and trying to leave a comment about those gorgeous blue eyes. I’m cursed. Sigh. Here goes again!
