Feline Friday: Home is where the kitties are

We arrived home late yesterday morning. When Paul opened the front door, Lyra was waiting… and she looked surprised. Who are you? I imagined her thinking. And what have you done with Auntie Lynne? She was, nevertheless, happy to have her face rubbed. Within moments, Sasha and Sergei appeared near the top of the stairs, poking their heads through the railing to stare at us. As we walked into the living room, they dashed downstairs. Were they anxious for affection? No, they made a bee-line for the dining room, where much mewing insued until I’d replenished their bowls.

The great thing about having a wonderful cat-sitter is that the cats aren’t angry or standoffish when we come home from vacation. Instead, they are playful and very affectionate — as they always are.

They do seem glad to have their people home, but perhaps I’m projecting. We’re certainly glad to be home with them.

I’m certain they were happy to have you home; they just needed the comfort of a small snack as well. :) I got your link posted, thanks. Love your Alber Schweitzer quote! That’s such a great one. Cheers!

Give them their treats and a bit of food and after they have the time to think about it, they will give you the cold shoulder for a while. Ours always do even when they have a live in sitter.

While Archie is all over his cat minders, purring and delighted to be scratched and petted, Syd won’t come out at all while they are around. They come to feed and play with the cats each day, and she waits until they leave before emerging to eat. If they find her, and try to coax her from under a bed- she squalks, and digs in!
Yet, when I get home, she emerges slowly, and heads straight for her bowl, as if nothing happened, accepting a bit of affection sweetly and patiently, but without a lot of display.
Despite his affection for, and acceptance of the minders, it is Archie who gets himself in an uproar over my return, mewling and talking, running back and forth, and rolling around on his back like a puppy. How can anyone say that there is one particular “cat personality”?
