When I say that I’m really hungry, I am overstating the point. Perhaps my stomach is growling, or I feel lightheaded because my blood sugar is low, but I am never really hungry. I am rarely more than a few hours or a few dollars away from the next good meal. I am lucky.

Many people in this world are not so lucky. Ten million people will die this year of hunger and hunger-related illnesses. One in nearly seven human beings on this planet do not get enough food to lead healthy, active lives. And hunger is not an equal-opportunity scourge; seven out of ten of the hungry are women and girls. According to the UN World Food Programme, “hunger and malnutrition [are] the number one risk to health worldwide — greater than AIDS, malaria and tuberculosis combined.”

Starting today, you can join a group of food bloggers who are taking time away from playing with their food (and I mean that in the nicest possible way) to do something about hunger. In the words of Pim of Chez Pim, “What better cause for food bloggers than to feed the world’s hungry?” For the next 11 days, Pim and others are participating in Menu for Hope III, a raffle of all things foodie, to benefit the UN World Food Programme.

For a $10 donation, you can purchase a chance to win one of a variety of exotic treats, gorgeous cookbooks, experiences with famous foodies, cool cooking tools and fabulous restaurant meals. Visit Chez Pim to read about all the prizes, then head over to Firstgiving to pay your money and take your chances. I have my eye on a few prizes already, but I’m not yet saying which ones. I’m hoping to have so much competition as to make winning unlikely, because bad odds for me are better odds for someone who is hoping against hope for something to eat.

4317-mmm cheeseI bought this gorgeous artisanal cheese at the farmers market yesterday. It is rich, creamy, ashy… delicious. I am lucky indeed. (Not a seasonal image – at least not for a non-foodie – but Day 11 of my Holidailies advent calendar nevertheless.)

My brother loves this type of cheese and so does Nyssa, but I have never been able to adjust my taste to it. Going to check out the other sites.

Just wondered if you know of a good Seattle/WA state location that ships June Taylor conserves? I am looking for the perfect Marmalade and just ordered the Seville and the Three Fruit from CA supplier. I am closing a little food display in Ellensburg WA but am toying with the idea of re opening with a gourmet marmalade/preserve display. Will see how I like the products! My wife’s sprouted wheat home made bread deserves a worthy topping!
