Last year, we gave Sasha, Sergei and Lyra their first Christmas tree. I feared mayhem and jumping and tipping and crashing, but the cats surprised me. They were quite calm around the tree, venturing beneath its lowest branches but no farther. We saw no signs of climbing, nor were any ornaments removed by our furry sneakthieves.
This year, we’ll be away at Christmas longer than in past years, so I’d thought that we might not get a tree. However, as I contemplate the upcoming weekend, I find that tree-hunting has appeared on my mental list. I won’t go out to the national forest to cut a tree, as friends of our did last weekend, but I look forward to finding and decorating a tree. Perhaps the scent of evergreen and glow of lights in our home will bring some of the holiday spirit I’ve been missing.
On Day 8, a look back to last year, and Sasha’s first meeting with an angel.

Hop to. This is the weekend for trees. I just need to figure out how to decorate the top four feet of mine but otherwise, it’s wonderful. It will put you in mind of the season! And Sasha will be delighted.
As I put the tree up there were six noses ready to sniff the branches, a few mouths ready to help undo the boxes and a whole crew waiting most impatiently for the tree skirt to go down. After it was in place someone took their place under the tree and a cat has been sleeping there since… not the same one of course. Only a few surly altercations over the right to sleep there so far.
