Many weeknights, I can tell that it’s 11 p.m. without checking a clock. I know the time because I hear Paul laughing. Monday through Thursday evenings, almost like, well, clockwork. No matter where I am in our house, Paul’s chuckling reaches me, and always makes me smile. The person responsible? Jon Stewart.
Today Jon Stewart is 44. Happy birthday, Mr. Stewart. Thank you for making my husband (and me) laugh.

And he is a graduate of William and Mary. So is Glenn Close.
We love Jon Stewart over here. A good laugh before bed is just the thing.
He has singlehandedly returned a semblance of intelligent humor to late night television. Just when I thought we were doomed to an eternity of Jay Leno-milquetoast monologues for the rest of our lives, along came Mr. Stewart to save the day.
As a journalist, I find it somewhat hilarious that so many people now view Stewart and Colbert as their prime sources of news, and that so many newsmakers now use these shows to reach their audience. On the surface, it seems bizarre, but I love where it’s going.
Anything beats Leno.
