Had I shown you photos of the kitchen at the beginning of the week, they wouldn’t have looked noticeably different from the shot I took almost two weeks ago. Our carpenter had made progress, but not the exhilirating sort that transforms the appearance of a space in a matter of hours. This week, however, the joint has been hopping, and the kitchen is looking more complete.
This week, the cabinet painter put the second coat of paint on our cabinets. The primer and first coat of paint were sprayed on in their shop, then the cabinets were delivered to our living room to await installation. Early this week, after all of the cabinets and their trim had been installed and caulked, the painter spent a couple of days brushing on the final coat of glossy, creamy paint. (While this photo and the one below might suggest otherwise, the paint on all of the cabinets is the same off-white semi-gloss cabinet enamel. The differences in color rendition are due to artificial lighting and my flash.)
Today, our carpenter and his helper began attaching the drawer knobs and installing the cabinet drawers. The dark voids in the cabinet boxes are disappearing. These dark iron knobs, while not our first choice (a pyramidal Mission-style knob), were remarkably cost effective ( read downright cheap). They are weighty, feel good in the hand, and have a subtle sheen that plays well with the stainless steel appliances and the black countertops. I believe that all of the cabinet drawers, shelves and doors will be installed by the end of the day tomorrow; that will certainly be worthy of a new set of photos.

Thank you so much for keeping us posted on the transformation-it proves an ugly duckling can become a swan. We are eager to see the final results in person. One question-will it be permissible to cook Thanksgiving dinner and make a mess or will you want everything to remain pristine? Love you, Barbie
The details are really looking great! The pulls work well with the black counter and the stainless appliances. Nice work! Love you.
Cool. I was kind of wondering if I was going to have to keep to myself the fact that I’d bought a bunch of similar knobs for my current kitchen off of ebay at about 99-cents each. Same decision process after doing the multiplication.
