3561-good eggs

The Ballard Farmers Market opens at 10 a.m. If caught selling early, a farmer is fined $50; that’s ample deterrent for all involved. When I got to the Skagit River Ranch tent at 9:45 a.m., I joined a line of 8 people waiting to buy eggs. Some folks in front of me wanted chicken, pork or beef, too, but the eggs go most quickly. By 10 a.m., there were more than 20 people in line. George limited egg purchases today to one dozen per person. Apologizing to the man who asked for 3 dozen, he tilted his head toward the line. “All those folks back there? They’re waiting for eggs, too.” When I bought my dozen, it looked like George had 14-16 dozen left. This was half of the line when I left the tent at 10:05. Those folks all got eggs, and perhaps a few more beyond them. And yes, their eggs really are that good.

And of course, there was produce, too:

This looks a lot like the farmer’s market at Grand Army Plaza in Brooklyn. Great color, great food and all this talk of it makes me hungry.

Do you ever come across gooseberries at that market?
