Feline Friday: Lounging

in Cats

There’s something about this photo of Miss Lyra that reminds me of Manet’s Olympia, the nude portrait of a prostitute that caused such an uproar in 1860′s Paris. No, it has nothing to do with the small black cat in the painting; Lyra reminds me of Olympia herself. Perhaps it’s the direct gaze, or the reclining posture, or that attitude of self-possession. Do you see it, too, or is it just me?

There are plenty of spots for lounging at the Friday Ark. Watermark hosts Carnival of the Cats on Sunday.

I had to go back and take a look at Olympia but it’s the look in their eyes that is so similar. Great photo!

She has that look of self absorption and her eyes are giving you that evil stare. You are invading her space.

Have you noticed that often cats want more personal space, actually require more personal space than people? They really do consider themselves the “gods of the universe.”

Wow, that is uncanny. She really does look like Olympia.
