Tricia and I did a kitchen renovation about five years ago. It was a great adventure! We stripped the walls down to bare studs and did most of the work ourselves , including electrical and drywall and taking out part of a wall. We had a ceiling problem too. The kitchen had been expanded in a previous remodel by taking in a covered porch and they had hidden a difference in ceiling height by installing acoustic tile. We fixed that with furring and drywall.

We set up an improvised "kitchen" in the dining room with a plywood counter. We did a lot of cooking in the microwave and crock pot and we grilled outside a lot (and went to restaurants). Washing dishes was more of a problem. We bought a plastic rolling cart like they use to bus tables and took everything to the bathroom sink. And we used disposable dishes a good bit also.

We had estimated three months but it took longer. I had a lot of fun but Tricia was sick of it before it was over. One of the best parts was uncovering changes that had been made in the first remodel and trying to see what the original kitchen had been like.
