This morning, I was awakened by one of the cats walking across my bladder. When I got out of bed to attend to the resultant urge, I noticed a warm glow through the translucent glass of our bathroom window. I opened the window to darkened tops of roof and tree silhouetted against pale, clear sky, a ribbon of peachy pink tying them together.
Yes, dear reader, I fetched my camera, and snapped several slow exposures, my elbows steadied on the windowsill. When Sasha asked for a look, in that tiny voice so out of proportion to his tall frame, I set down the camera, and gathered up his warm, soft body in my arms. Settling my elbows back onto the windowsill, I cradled Sasha against my chest. We sniffed the light morning breeze, and watched for the many birds that we could hear, but not see.
I don’t know how long Sasha would have lain draped across my arms, watching the world outside. I was still sleepy, and a little chilled, so after a few minutes I closed the window, and carried Sasha back to our bed. Just before I snuggled up against Paul’s back and dozed off again, I glanced over at his bedside table. The clock read 4:38.

That’s summer more than half way to the pole…kids can play ball til after 9, too.
this day is glorious!
I’m listenting to some Mozart….
I loved the part about feeling “chilled”. It would be nice to wake to a cool and dry air mass instead of the humidity. I did see that Seattle and the rest of the northwest was going to have record highs yesterday and today. How has that worked out?
From the moment I saw the picture, I thought “My, she was up very early yesterday morning!” It is a beautiful shot and reminds me of one Tom took in Stockholm one morning when we could not sleep after drinking strong after dinner coffee. We watched the sky darken (about midnight) and lighten about three hours later.
I’m goad you were able to drift back to sleep. Love you, B
I call these moments “holy moments” because they are beautiful and they just happen.
I knew I wasn’t cut out to live in Seattle when I found that I not only disliked the 9am-3:30pm winter light but actually disliked the 4:30am-10:15pm summer light. Too extreme for me by at least 30 minutes on each end.
My cats wake us up every morning now at 5:00 a.m. just when our sun is rising too….a most beautiful peaceful time of day! (up in Ontario, Canada!)
What a beautiful post, thank you!
Your kitty’s ‘bladder trick’, I can relate, I think they are all trained how to hit ‘just the right spot’ to get the goal accomplished!!! LOL.
