Poetry
I, too, dislike it.
Reading it, however, with a perfect contempt for it, one discovers in
it, after all, a place for the genuine.
– Marianne Moore
I like this poem; it made me smile. Read Moore’s earlier, longer version of the poem here. April is National Poetry Month.

Thanks for posting this–I haven’t read it in years, and I’d forgotten all about it.
I have never read it before , but I like it
Thanks for sharing… Michele says hi!
nice! I like some of her poems…
I’m taking part in a 30 day poetry challenge. Write one poem every day for 30 days. Hope I can do it!
I love poetry, on occasion. Sometimes the message gets lost in the language. Sometimes the author is under pressure or having a nervous breakdown. (This also goes for prose writers. I wouldn’t recommend Herman Melville’s “Mardi”. ) When the ideas are clear, poetry is beautiful. This one is VERY nice.
“the place for the genuine” is what drives my love for poetry–writing and reading it.
I particularly like “imaginary gardens with real toads in them” in the long version. I think that sums poetry quite nicely.
