Imagine you are me. It is yesterday evening. These are your possible writing topics:
- On March 1, 1996, you arrived in California to live with Paul. Discuss the highs and lows of a decade with the man you love.
- Hurricane Katrina hit the Gulf Coast six months ago. Much of the affected area is still in ruins. The 2006 hurricane season is only three months away. Turns out the president was briefed about the possible impacts of the storm. Discuss without engaging in head-banging.
- You’ll be changing jobs soon. Discuss your long, multi-faceted and emotionally-fraught decision-making process.
Which topic would you have chosen? This is the choice I made:
Mandarin orange marmalade. Because sometimes several hours of juicing, chopping, measuring and boiling is a better choice than any of the above. And you get to eat your results on toast the next morning.

I like the way you think! So, it’s official, and really truly happening, you are staying in Seattle, like, fer sure? Because I’ve been holding out on my celebrations. I think it might be time to start, though. Wahoo!
PS I want to hear more about your decade with Paul
PPS I like your use of the toaster to reflect more of the yumminess here.
Any jars available for readers of your other topics when posted?
If I download that photo will I get to eat it?
Cool picture. Am enjoying Marmalade Madness. What’s next?
I have tried only a Meyer Lemon one thus far. Tasty, but a bit too chewy, even for me (and I like em chewy). I should have cooked the peel longer.
Mustn’t mix Bush and food. Serious indigestion may ensue. Therefore, if you continue, I would suggest one of the 2 other topics.

And went to
His Majesty:
“Talking of the butter for
The royal slice of bread,
Many people
Think that
Marmalade
Is nicer.
Would you like to try a little
Marmalade
Instead?”

Mandarin orange? Mmmm!
OK, so I haven’t had breakfast… late night… no I just didn’t go to bed until it was almost 5AM so late day today. Now I am famished and we have no marmalade in sight. Don’t even have any apple butter. Woe is me!
a piece of mind…
Deb’s had more than a few curveballs come her way lately. If I could reach through this screen and give her a big hug, I would. But I can’t. So I’m stuck with just saying I hope the bad things pass soon. Hate to see people hurting – especially…
