Call these what you will: resolutions, intentions, aspirations, longings. I am calling them hopes. After the pain and suffering of Paul’s cancer in 2004, and our work to recover in 2005, I have high hopes for 2006.
In 2006, I hope to have in my life more:
- Family: quality time with Paul, adopting a child/children, more visits/contact with our extended family
- Community: reconnecting with distant friends, making new friends, finding a spiritual community
- Music: singing, playing my violin, going to concerts
- Movement: dancing, working out, long walks
- Writing: blogging, daily writing practice, work on the book I began in my writing class last year
- Contentment: will this follow from acting on these two lists?
In 2006, I hope to have in my life less:
- Stuff: if I don’t need or use it, why have it?
- Weight: the issue of fitness aside, the truth is that I weigh more than is healthy
- Television: to make time for things on the “more” list, something’s gotta go
- Inaction/hesitation: we put lots of plans and dreams on hold when Paul got sick a couple of years ago, and it’s time to get on with them
- Stress: some things in the “more” list are stress reducers, find a good bodyworker to work on physical effects
- Fear: it all comes down to this, doesn’t it? more therapy…
May your hopes for 2006 be realized.

I love your list for 2006. I could almost copy it word for word. Here’s wishing you all that you hope to accomplish will happen and happen with no stressful kinks. Blessings to you and Paul at the start of a new spin around the sun
My hope, wish, aspiration for you is that all of those things will come to pass. Love you, Barbie.
Best wishes of the season (it’s not over yet, is it?) and a very happy new year, Kimberly, to you and yours! These are wonderful aspirations!
(I’ve accidentally over the last few months given up a lot of television, and it’s made a world of difference in some of the domains you list.)
I love the word “hopes”! Have you ever tried yoga?
Those are lovely! I like the idea of more and less.
