Paul and I spent last weekend in that modern-day land of the lotus-eaters, California. It was a weekend overly full of questions and possibilities, all of which have occupied my mind since, and about which I’m not yet ready to write.
The sun followed us back to Seattle. Though weakened slightly by its journey, it has for the past couple of days provided us with blue skies and (be still my heart!) shadows. In January, the shadows cast by trees on our neighbor’s house make me almost giddy.

We had some bright sun this week and I tried to get a “tree shadow” picture. But, it was accompanied by high winds and the shadows “danced” at such a frenzied pace they blurred. The dry leaves were whirling on the ground and every once in a while a gust would kick them high into the air. One was so beautiful, a bright red leaf against the sand color of the building with its own little leafy shadow. Alas, the leaf too was dancing too fast.
‘Twas lovely while it lasted, though we are presently back to shades of grey. A cat in the lap is a good cure just now.
