Today is Hogmanay (the Scottish word for New Year’s Eve), and I’m going to try this year to channel my Scots ancestors and clean the house before midnight. OK, I may not clean it all, but I’ll at least tidy and declutter a bit. Failing that, I’ll just stuff everything in closets so the house looks nice for New Year’s Day. I doubt we’ll have any tall dark men showing up to cross our threshold tomorrow, but having a tidy house to start the year would be nice.
For anyone who stops by while I’m engaged in this tradition of my people, here’s a meme that came my way from Barry of enrevanche.
Four jobs I’ve had in my life:
- stereo salesperson
- office manager
- musician (this is more a hobby than a job, but I am sometimes paid for it)
- architect
Four movies I could watch over and over:
- My Fair Lady
- To Kill a Mockingbird (the book is a favorite, too)
- The Princess Bride
- Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner
My name is Kimberly, and I am a romantic.
Four places I’ve lived:
- Providence, RI
- Somerville, MA
- Washington, DC
- Menlo Park, CA
Four TV shows I love to watch:
- The West Wing
- Law & Order: Criminal Intent
- The Daily Show
- Commander in Chief (I’m a sucker for a show about a woman president)
Four websites I visit daily:
- ArchNewsNow
- A Painting a Day
- Postcard from Provence
- New York Times
Four of my favorite foods:
- Cherries
- Salmon
- Dark chocolate
- French toast (but only if it’s really good… and mine is)
Four places I’d rather be:
- Vienna at New Year’s (especially if someone would take me waltzing)
- Stockholm at midsummer
- Scotland any time
- Someplace sunny right about now *sigh*
Four albums I can’t live without love:
- Cry, Cry, Cry - Dar Williams, Lucy Kaplansky and Richard Shindell
- Eva by Heart - Eva Cassidy
- Worlds Bliss: Medieval Songs of Love and Death - John Fleagle
- Mad Robin - Jacqueline Schwab
Feel free to tag yourselves. I hear a vacuum cleaner calling my name. (Watch out, McKittens…)

Cry Cry Cry - absolutely LOVE them! Especially Dar. But I became an instant Richard and Lucy fan because of this album.
Happy Hogmanay!
I was listening to Mad Robin about half an hour ago. Weird, kimberly…
Well it is now the new year. Hope you finished as much cleaning as you wanted to.
By the way, how did the McKittens do “home alone” with their Christmas tree?
