I can’t believe it’s already Friday again! It’s just after midnight, and I’ve been home from work for about half an hour. I have a major deadline coming up, and the days are flying past too quickly.
While this photo is not as crisp as I’d like, I’m thrilled that my new camera is quick enough that I can capture images like this. The absence of a sampled harplike arpeggio - a start-up feature of the digital camera I’d been using - gives me a better chance of catching the cats unaware. Sergei’s response to the sound of the old camera starting was to come to me, and put his face up as close to the lens as possible. Sasha knew that the sound often preceded very bright flashes of light, and he would close his eyes or roll over. This is much better… and eventually I’ll understand the fine points of the autofocus.
On Tuesday evening, a very big political blogger linked to my Carnival of the Cats post. (I probably wouldn’t have noticed for days, except that another cat-blogger left a comment mentioning the link.) This is someone whose blog gets over 150,000 hits a day, and the 1800+ visitors that he has sent my way, about … umm (does the math)… 0.62% of his readership during this time period is… umm (does more math)… almost 9% of the visitors that Music and Cats has received in all of its short, quiet life. They’ve been a very quiet, well-behaved bunch, these visitors; they haven’t left any trash around the place, or harassed the cats, or said much of anything at all. It seems that they’ve even kept the comment spammers away for a couple of days! It’s an odd thing to have so many visitors, and not to have any evidence of their having been here other than my stats.
I’d ramble on some more, but I have to be at work early tomorr — er, today. Oh, for a cat’s life…
What’s wrong? It’s after midnight, and there’s no Friday Ark post at the Modulator! If you’re still Jonesing for cats, you can visit Chloe or Hakuna and Matata right now.
Update: Friday Ark is boarding now! Thanks, Steve, for always being there.

I love the reflection. This is a very beautiful photo. And happy birthday to your husband!
I think Sasha and Chloe must be meditating on similar things. Hope it isn’t a conspiracy of cats! I didn’t see Chloe’s eyes though. She might have actually been asleep already. She can sleep sitting up.
That’s a very cool picture!
Heh, heh. The Modulator Staff was out playing very late last night….
I love this picture. I think you’re way too harsh on yourself for the technical bits: it looks great.
Visiting from Michele’s. Your stories of cats make me remember our Shadow with fondness. He’s missed, but we smile every time we talk about him.
That is a phenomenal picture! You should send that in to a contest!

Certainly one of your best cat photos. Yay for new cameras that sneak up on kittens!
Lovely! You’ve definitely captured the spontaneity of which make up the very best shots! …(b.t.w. Carnival was amazing last week
thanks, again.)
What an amazing photo. Sasha is a real beauty.
