Each time that our 21-month-old nephew Reed saw Lyra this week, he’d repeat the word “cat” several times over. That one word, from his lips, seemed to convey a range of thoughts and emotions: excitement (look! a cat!), questioning (where is the cat?), anxiety (the cat is in the doorway; how do I get past her?), desire (I want that cat). When we left the house, out of sight was not out of mind. Wherever we might be (Aquarium, farmers’ market, Pacific Science Center, blueberry farm), Reed would occasionally pipe up with a “cat” or two, which we took to mean that it was time to go home (and see the cat).
Recently, Philip commented to ask, “What is this Friday Ark?” Steve of Modulator hosts an animal-blogging Carnival of sorts each Friday, to which you may submit any sort of animal post you wish. This weekend, Laurence Simon, head honcho behind the Carnival of the Cats, will be participating in Blogathon 2005 at TBIFOC, blogging in memory of Edloe. Carnival of the Cats will be up at TBIFOC on Sunday morning.

Love that pic! Of course a black kitty’s fave spot will be on something white–my cat cleverly manages to shed her white fur on my black pants and black fur on my white sweater. They’re so smart!
Lyra looks so happy on the bed. She has this look that says buzz off, this is mine!
That Lyra is one gorgeous kitty.
Cat! Cat! Cat! Cat! Cat! Cat!
Reed sounds like one smart little fellow. Not even two years old yet and it looks like he’s already learned how wonderful kitties are!
And Lyra is so very beautiful.
Just wanted to leave a comment *here* to thank you for your email, and stuff.
I had a Siamese once who would let kids pick her up and carry her around the place, dangling. She let three year olds hug and squeeze her and never a hiss or bite. Lyra looks like she is very aware of what is going on and would be quick to find an out-of-reach place away from probing little fingers if need be.
